WP article on Voltaire
The WP article on Voltaire has a section titled 'Voltaire and Rousseau': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltaire#Voltaire_and_Rousseau
Towards the end of this section we see this:
On 2 July 1778, Rousseau died one month after Voltaire's death.[200] In October 1794, Rousseau's remains were moved to the Panthéon, where they were placed near the remains of Voltaire.[201][note 4]
Louis XVI, while incarcerated in the Temple, had remarked that Rousseau and Voltaire had "destroyed France", by which he meant his dynasty.[203][note 5]
----
Scrutinizing an earlier version of this article reveals that what seems to be an important sentence has been removed and the article allowed to stabilize. This was how the end of this section was looking on October 10, 2015 :
On July 2, 1778, Rousseau died one month after Voltaire's death.[134] In October 1794, Rousseau's remains were moved to the Panthéon, where they were placed near the remains of Voltaire.[135][note 3] In May 1814, during the Bourbon Restoration, the remains of Rousseau and Voltaire were secretly retrieved from the Panthéon by some religious fanatics, and buried in a dumping ground near Paris; the remains are now untraceable.[137]
Louis XVI, while incarcerated in the Temple, had remarked that Rousseau and Voltaire had "destroyed France", by which he meant his dynasty.[138][note 4]
The underlined sentence was fully sourced. (I know because this entire section had been composed and inserted into the article by me. The underlined words were taken from the book 'The Story of Civilization Volume 9: The Age of Voltaire' by Will and Ariel Durant)
So why was the seemingly important sentence removed from the WP article? Is it because visitors or prospective visitors to the Pantheon today are given to understand that Voltaire and Rousseau lie buried in their tombs in the Pantheon (whereas the reality is that this is not true), and it may hurt business at the Pantheon if the truth becomes well known?
